Please pray for Malaysia...

Received this in my email today.....truly saddens my heart...here's what it says:

What has become to malaysia??

My religion is non-Muslim: I have a name for my religion

Never before in the 50-year history of Malaysia have there been more
"Little Napoleons" who have become school principals and administrators
who lack the most elementary understanding and respect for the rights and
sensitivities of diverse races, religions, languages and cultures of
plural Malaysia

I have received and put on my blog another complaint by a parent against a
school principal – of SMK Bandar Utama 4 Damansara - about the lack of
understanding and respect for the sensitivities and rights of diverse
races, religions, languages and cultures in plural Malaysia which are the
real assets of the country.

It is most shocking that the never before in the 50-year history of
Malaysia have there been more "Little Napoleons" who have become school
principals and administrators who lack the most elementary understanding
and respect for the rights and sensitivities of diverse races, religions,
languages and cultures of plural Malaysia.

This letter from a parent complaining about the principal of SMK Bandar
Utama 4 Damansara reads:

"I would like to bring to your attention, the latest happening in SMK
Bandar Utama 4 Damansara (near Ikano Power Centre). This school has about
85% of its students who are Chinese. Its first HM is a Chinese and
followed by a Malay lady. All this while, the school has a proud
tradition of good old days where students can wear shorts for PE lesson,
celebration of major Chinese festival like Chinese New Year, cheerleading
team and secular school type of school assembly.

"Unfortunately, all these good times are gone with the coming of a new
Malay headmistress who is a religious bigot. With 10% Muslim students,
she is now imposing 'bacaan doa' during assembly, banning of the
cheerleading team, no more wearing of shorts for PE and the worst of all
is that for the coming CNY, the school can have a lion dance performance
but WITHOUT the DRUM.

"This is really absurd because the Chinese drums are very noisy. How can a
minority group in the school imposed their values on the majority group -
another case of insensitivity among the Muslims."

There have been over 40 comments since the blog went up this morning,
including instances of insensitivity in other schools, such as a
complaint from a parent whose son is in a primary school in Kulim.

The parent was incensed at a printout of the personal particulars sent out
by his son's teacher asking parents to verify.

He was very surprised at the "religion" category, as there are only two
choices - Muslim and Non-Muslim.

He asked: "So what does that mean? My religion is non-Muslim. I have a
name for my religion, why can't (they) put more choices?"

The parent wanted to know whether this format was drafted by the school or
the education ministry – an answer all Malaysians are also awaiting.

Is the Education Minister, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein setting the
proper role model for teachers and students as an exemplary Malaysian
fully respectful of the sensitivities and rights of the diverse races,
religions, languages and cultures which is the asset and pride of the
country – as to be advertised internationally as "Truly Asia"?

For a start, Hishammuddin should set an example as an exemplary Malaysian
and Education Minister by making amends and apologise for his
insensitive, divisive and incendiary "keris-waving" episodes in the past
two Umno Youth general assemblies – setting the worst possible example
to teachers and students on respect for sensitivities and rights for
diverse races, religions, languages and cultures in plural Malaysia.

Lim Kit Siang

Indeed, we need to be like the sons of Issachar who understood the times and knew what Israel should do (1 Chronicles 12: 32).....we need to stand up and pray.......

WILL YOU STAND IN THE GAP?

Had the privilege of attending a GCF-OCF Alumni talk held recently…and boy, was I glad I was there! The speaker was Professor Dr. Thio Li- ann – a Christian law professor in NUS. Here’s what she said:

Her opening verse was taken from Matthew 22:14:
“Many are called, few are chosen”.

What does that mean?
Well, basically it means that ALL of us are called of God, but not many will withstand the trials/ persecution that comes with answering the call of God upon our lives.

Many times, we Christians ask the wrong question; ie we ask “O God, where/ what do You want me to do?” . For most of our lives, we spend it trying to remember what the assignment that God gave us was….rather than how to complete that assignment. What a waste of precious, precious time!

This was followed by exhortation to serve God in our generation, to be an agent of change….to be Christ’s ambassadors to the world….
- Matthew 5: 13- 16 – What and how to be the salt and light of the world ?
- Ephesians 6:10, 13, 14 – Here, we are called to ‘ STAND’ , just stand, not even to take/possess enemy ground…….

Then, she challenged us with this statement:
“ What does standing in the gap mean?”
Refer to Ezekiel 22: 30 – “ I looked for a man among them who would build up the wall and STAND IN THE GAP on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it..”

Her concluding statement was that we as Christians need to stand up and make our voice heard in the market place – be it in the financial/ political/ etc area…..The final battle will be in the secular world – our marketplace. It is easy to preach, but it is not easy to serve God and be different in our workplace, where Christians are the minority. It is the faithfulness in small things, in our daily walk in life that counts for eternity. It will be difficult and tiring to go against the grain, but it is also necessary if we are to count the cost and carry our cross….

Love this quote:
“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing”. - Edmund Burke

Think about it……what are you willing to stand up for in your workplace?

WHAT KIND OF LEGACY WILL YOU LEAVE BEHIND?

Was just so blessed to be able to meet up JM, one of my junior in Uni and MUOCF at TCC in Bugis Junction recently for coffee. Haven't had the time nor occasion to do for a long long while...sigh...i miss my 'coffee ministry'!! But was just overwhelmed with thanks when she shared about how my life has impacted her...how my prayers have helped her to mentor and pray with the younger leaders in OCF after I left...Thank You Lord for giving me a glimpse of the harvest that You have given me.....even if it was someone else who reaped the harvest, I am glad and really honoured have been able to be a part of Your work on campus!

Ever wondered what kind of legacy you wanna leave behind? Listen to what one of my fave songwriter says....

LEGACY – NICOLE NORDEMAN

I don't mind if you've got something nice to say about me
And I enjoy an accolade like the rest
You could take my picture and hang it in a gallery
Of all the who's who and so-n-so's that used to be the best
At such 'n such...it wouldn't matter much

I won't lie, it feels alright to see your name in lights
We all need an "Atta boy" or "Atta girl"
But in the end I'd like to hang my hat on more besides
the temporary trappings of this world

Chorus:
I want to leave a legacy
How will they remember me?
Did I choose to love?
Did I point to you enough to make a mark on things?
I want to leave an offering
A child of mercy and grace who blessed Your name unapologetically
And leave that kind of legacy

I don't have to look too far or too long awhile
To make a lengthy list of all that I enjoy
It's an accumulating trinket and a treasure pile
Where moth and rust, thieves and such will soon destroy

Chorus

Not well traveled, not well read, not well-to-do or well bred
Just want to hear instead, "Well done" good and faithful one

A year gone, a new year is here....

Can't believe that it's exactly one month since my last entry....and during that time we have crossed from 2007 to 2008!! WOW!!
Been going through my blog entries...and I am amazed a my June 22, 2007 entry
- it has taken me another 6 months to address these issues with my cell group.
Basically I have been so discontented with this cell group - disgusted to say the least with their apathy and uncaring attitudes towards new comers in the cell. Do they even have an idea of what a cell is supposed to be? It has taken me, a new comer to drag my dear friend HL back to cell because no one in that cell cared enough to follow up on her....and I am talking about 12 months later since her 1st visit!!! And it takes a new comer to let them know how poor they are in welcoming and retaining new comers to their cell!! Talk about a lack of insight?!? Sigh......
Anyway, I sent an email to the cell in December 2007 to encourage us to meet before the end of the year and to discuss our cell group's goal and direction for 2008. And guess what? I opened a floodgate of emails that I have never seen before - guess everyone felt the same like me, but no one had the guts nor initiative to say it out ! another sigh....
Yet I thank God for that 'kairos' moment and guts to write that email....He always cue me on time....and I am glad for obedience to His Holy Spirit's prompting...now we are on the way to getting to know God better and each other as well....for once, we attended church service as a cell group! And even had dinner after that?!? Hahaha...it has finally happened after more than a year in this cell!!! Things sure move much slower here compared to Aussieland! ;) But better late than never right?
And then discovered that our cell name actually has a meaning!
isHeep - i serve Him with enthusiasm and eternal praise!! How cool!! Hahaha....
Anyway, am looking forward to the cell group growing and how God will use me to minister others!! So watch this page.....to be continued.....
